NTSE 2018 Exam Pattern

NTSE 2018 is an Objective type test which will be organised via offline mode (i.e. using paper-pencil mode). All applicants are required to read this post to get a complete information related to the NTSE 2018 exam pattern.

NTSE 2018 Exam Pattern for Stage-I

The Stage-I is conducted at State/UT level by the concerned State/UT authorities. The applicants required to select 1 language either English or Hindi to solve the question paper. Each correct answer is awarded 1 mark and there is no negative marking applicable at this stage. The question paper will be further divided into 2 parts and the total duration to solve the exam is 1½ Hours (90 minutes).

Part 1 – MAT (Mental Ability test): This part comprises of analytical and logical reasoning based questions. This section tests the applicant’s reasoning, ability to think, evaluate, ability to discriminate and visualize. A total of 50 questions are asked to be answered under this section. Questions are asked from analogies, classifications, series, pattern perception, coding-decoding, hidden figures and problem solving etc.

Part 2 – Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT): This part consists of 150 questions from Language and Science, Mathematics and Social science. The section judges the applicant’s reading abilities, interpretation, evaluation and general awareness of the subjects.

NTSE 2018 Exam Pattern for Stage II

The Stage 2 is held at National Level organized by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), where shortlisted applicant from State-level exam appear to compete for scholarship. Paper will be further divided into two parts i.e. MAT and SAT, like that in Stage 1. However, a negative marking of 1/3 marks is applicable on every wrong answer marked by the applicant at Stage-II is done for each wrong answer given by the applicant. The test is to be completed in 135 minutes.
