GATE Exam Pattern 2018Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national level entrance exam for admission to Post-Graduate courses in the field of technology and engineering. Applicants can get admissions into Ph.D. / M.Tech. Programmes in IISc, IITs, IISERs and other well-reputed institutions through GATE score. Every year, GATE is organized by the seven region IITs and an IISc on a rotational basis. GATE 2018 Dates will be notified/ informed in July 2017. Apart from giving admission, a score of gate exam is also considered one of the standard/ criteria for recruitment to private & government associations working in technical fields. GATE Exam Pattern 2018

 

  • Course: GATE examination is generally organised for M.Tech. / Ph.D. courses in IISc, IITs, and various other institutions.
  • Number of Papers: GATE 2018 is organized/ conducted for total 23 papers. Applicants are allowed/ acceptable to appear for only one paper out of 23 papers.
  • Mode of Examination: GATE 2018 will be organized via online mode only (Computer Based Test).
  • Exam Duration: The examination contain a duration of 3 hours (180 minutes).
  • Number of Questions: Question paper contain total 65 questions which contain a weightage of maximum 100 marks.
  • Type of Questions: MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions) & NAT (Numerical Answer Type Questions) will be mainly asked in the GATE 2018 examination. In MCQ type questions, 4 choices will be provided to the applicant in which he/she have to choose one out of them while there will be no choices/ options provided for NAT. Applicants are required to enter the real number in NAT (Numerical Answer Type Questions) with the help of virtual keypad.
  • Section Common in All GATE Papers: GA (General Aptitude) section is common in all papers which contain of total 10 questions of maximum 15 marks (5 questions of 2 marks and 5 questions of 1 mark).
  • New Section: In XE paper, new section (H) namely Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences has been introduced/ announced from the last year (2017)
  • Marking Scheme: NAT and MCQ questions will contain a weightage of 1 or 2 marks in all papers.
  • Negative Marking: There will be a negative marking in this examination. 1/3 of marks will be deducted from questions which carry of 1 mark. Whereas, 2/3 of marks will be deducted from the questions which carry 2 marks and there will be no negative marking for NAT (Numerical Answer Type questions).

Exam Pattern for All Papers except GG, XE, XL:

 

  • 30 questions of 2 marks each.
  • 25 questions of 1 mark each.
  • 10 questions from GA.

GATE 2018 Exam Pattern for Paper GG:

  • Part A – Consists of total 25 questions which contain a weightage of 1 mark each. This part is common for all the applicants.
  • Part B – Consists of total 30 questions which contain a weightage of 2 marks each. This part has consist of 2 sections, i.e. section-1 is of Geology and section-2 is of Geophysics.
  • 10 questions will be asked from GA (General Aptitude).

GATE 2018 Exam Pattern for Paper XE:

  • Section A: Engineering Mathematics (Mandatory Section) – Total 11 questions will be asked. Where 7 questions contain a weightage of 1 mark each and other question (i.e. 4 questions) contain a weightage of 2 marks each. It is common to all applicants.
  • Any 2 of XE sections from B to H -22 questions will be asked. Where 9 questions will be carrying 1 mark each and other 13 questions will carry a weightage of 2 marks each.
  • 10 questions will be asked from GA (General Aptitude).

GATE Exam Pattern 2018 for Paper XL:

  • Section P: Chemistry (compulsory section) – It constitute of total 15 questions. Where 5 questions carry 1 marks of each and other 10 questions will carry 2 marks of each.
  • Any 2 of XL sections Q to U -Carries total 20 questions. Where 10 questions contain a weightage of 1 mark each and other 10 questions will carry 2 marks of each.
  • 10 questions will be asked from GA (General Aptitude).
