NEST 2017: NISER Admission, Application Form, Exam Pattern, Syllabus:

National Entrance Screening Test (NEST) is a national level entrance test standardized/ controlled by joint venture of NISER (National Institute of Science Education and Research) and UM-DAE CBS (University of Mumbai – Department of Atomic Energy Center for Excellence in Basic Sciences). It is organised for admission to the 5 year’s included Master of Science (M.Sc) programme proposed by NISER and UM-DAE CBS. This exam is performed once in a year in around 59 cities across the country. Applicants may get the detailed information about NEST 2017 including application form, exam pattern, eligibility, and syllabus.

NEST 2017 Exam Dates

NEST 2017 Application Form

  • Applicants can only fill and submit their NEST 2017 Application Form only via online mode.
  • There is no other mode available to fill and submit application form for this exam.
  • Online application form will be available from the 2nd Jan –6th March 2017.
  • Applicants have to fill their application form with all details and upload the scanned photograph along with signature.
  • Male Applicants belong toGeneral or OBC category need to pay  700/- as application fee whereas Applicants belong to SC/ST/PD category and all female applicants need to pay Rs. 350/- for the same.
  • The fee payment will be made through the online mode by using debit card, credit card or by net banking or through DD (demand draft) of any bank drawn on the favor of NISER-NEST and owed at Bhubaneswar.

 * If paying through DD, after filling the form, applicants have to submit the duly filled application form copy along with the demand draft in the given address through speed post:

NEST Eligibility Criteria 

Education qualification:

  • Applicants must have completed their 12thor alike exam with any combination of Chemistry / Physics/ Mathematics /Biology subjects.
  • Applicants must have completed their 12thor alike exam in 2015 or 2016 are also eligible.
  • Applicants who have complete their 12thor alike exam before 2015 are not eligible.
  • Applicants appearing in 12thor alike exam are also eligible for the exam.
  • For admission in Master of Science (Sc) programme, applicants belong to general & OBC category must grab minimum 60%of marks and candidates belong to SC, ST and PD category must grab 55%of marks in their 12th or alike exam.
  • Applicants should secure a position in NEST 2017 merit list.

Age limit:

  • Applicants those who belong to general and OBC category and born on or after 1st of August, 1997 are eligible for exam.
  • Age relaxation of 5 years is given for SC, ST and PD (Physically Disable) candidates.

Exam Pattern

  • Sections: Exam paper will be categorized into 5 sections which contain general section of 30 marks & 4 subject sections of 50 marks each.
  • Subjects:  5 sections are General aptitude, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology.
  • Section 1 is necessary for all while section 2-5 are from subjects as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology.
  • Applicants can choose any section as per their choice.
  • Merit Calculation: Only 3 highest scored sections was counted for merit calculation.
  • Language: English mode only.
  • Type: Question paper contain MCQ (Multiple Choice Question).
  • Negative Marking: There is no negative marking in general section but for all other subject sections Negative marking will be done.
  • Pattern: OMR pattern.
  • Marks: Question paper contain weightage of total 230 marks.

Seat Reservation

There are around 172 seats are available in NISER and 47 seats available in CBS for integrated M.Sc course. The seat reservation for different categories is mentioned below:

NEST Syllabus

NEST Syllabus will be followed by pattern of NCERT/CBSE science syllabus of class 11th & 12th. Syllabus contains subjects are Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology subjects. There is not any static syllabus for general section as general section, questions will be related to the major historical/ historic milestones in astronomy, environment, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology subjects and computer science.

Preparation Tips:

  • First of all strategy is your study preparations.
  • Prepare a time-table and divide time equally for each the subjects.
  • Applicants should prepare for the exam as per the given syllabus.
  • Include the best study material like preparation books and previous years question papers.
  • Note down difficult topics and discuss them with your teachers and classmates.

NEST 2017 Admit Card

NEST 2017 Admit Card will be accessible from the 14th of April 2017. Applicants can download their Admit card from the official site of NEST. Admit card will not be sent by post to any applicant. It is compulsory to bring the admit card and Identity card at the examination centre. Applicants are requested to keep the admit card safe till the admission process.

 NEST 2017 Result

Applicants can get their NEST 2017 Result from the official website. Result will be declared on 16th June 2017.  Merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks grab by an applicant in NEST exam. Merit list will be prepare on the basis of marks secure in general section along with top three sections. Applicants will be called for further admission procedure on the basis of ranks grabbed by the applicant in the rank list. Admissions will be done faithfully on the basis of merit list till all seats are filled.
