SSC (Staff Selection Commission) conducts Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) Examination for the recruitment of Lower Division Clerk (LDC), Data Entry Operator (DEO), and Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant & Court Clerk.

 SSC CHSL Exam Pattern

Tier-1 Examination:

  • Exam is objective type and will be conducted online.
  • Exam will have 100 questions for 200 marks.
  • There will be 4 parts in a question paper namely General Intelligence, English Language, Quantitative Aptitude, and General Awareness / General Knowledge.
  • Duration of the exam is 75 Minutes.
  • There will be negative marking of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.
  • Questions will be set both in English & Hindi for parts: 1, 3 & 4.

Tier-2 Examination:

  • Exam is descriptive type and will be conducted offline (pen & paper mode).
  • Applicants need to write essay / précis / letters / application writing etc.
  • Exam will be printed either in Hindi or in English.
  • Exam carries 100 marks and exam duration will be 1 hour.

Tier-3 Skill Test / Typing Test:

  • Typing Test: If opting English typing, then the typing speed of 35 words per minute required and If opting Hindi typing then the typing speed of 30 words per minute.
  • For Postal Assistant/Sorting Assistant, LDC and Court Clerk posts, the typing test will be applicable.
  • Skill Test: Data Entry Speed of 8,000 key depressions per hour on computer.
  • Only for Data Entry Operator post, the skill test will be applicable.

SSC CHSL Eligibility Criteria

  • Minimum age is 18 years and maximum age is 27 years. Age relaxation will be provided to certain categories as per the government rules.
  • Applicants must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.

SSC CHSL Application Fee

Online Application Fee:

  • Applicants have to pay fee of Rs. 100 (SC/ ST/ Female / PH category aspirants no need to pay any fee).
  • Applicants can pay application fee via net banking and any credit/debit cards.

Application Fee via SBI Challan:

  • Applicants have to pay fee of Rs. 100 (SC/ ST/ Female / PH category aspirants no need to pay any fee).
  • Applicants can pay application fee via Challan at any SBI branch.

SSC CHSL Selection Procedure

  • Tier-1 Written Exam will be done Online and of 200 Marks for Objective Type.
  • Tier-2 Written Exam will be done Offline and of 100 Marks for Descriptive Type.
  • Tier-3 Skill Test / Typing Test for those applicants only who qualify the tier-2 exam.

In Case of Tie

If more than one applicant score equal aggregates marks, the following rule to break tie will be applied:

  • Marks score in written examination.
  • According to the DOB, according to the seniority.
  • Alphabetical order of the applicant name appearing first.

SSC CHSL Admit Card

  • Admits card will be hosted on regional websites of SSC.
  • Applicants will not be allowed to enter in the examination hall without the admit card.
  • Applicants can download their CHSL exam admit card form respective regional SSC’s website.


  • Result will be in the “PDF” format.
  • The PDF file will contain the list of applicants.
  • Applicants need to search their name and roll number.
  • Final results will be published after tier-3 (skill test / typing test).
  • After final results, applicants will be appointed for the posts.

SSC Answer Key for CHSL 2018

  • Answer key for SSC CHSL 2018 will be available after the examination from the official website of the exam conducting authority for all the sets of the question paper and applicants can use them accordingly.
  • After each shift (Morning and Evening) answer Key of CHSL exam will be published.


  • For further recruitment process cut off is minimum marks that are compulsory to score to get selected.
  • Cut off marks for general applicants usually higher than the reserve category’s applicants.
