GATE 2018 SyllabusGraduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national level entrance exam for admission to Post-Graduate courses in the field of technology and engineering. Applicants can get admissions into Ph.D. / M.Tech. Programmes in IISc, IITs, IISERs and other well-reputed institutions through GATE score. Every year, GATE is organized by the seven region IITs and an IISc on a rotational basis. Gate exam score is also considered one of the standard/ criteria for recruitment to private & government associations working in technical fields, apart from giving admission into the college. The aptitude test will be conducted in February 2018. GATE 2018 syllabus will comprise of 23 papers. GATE 2018 Syllabus & Pattern

  • Total Questions: GATE 2018 Exam consist of total 65 questions which carries a weightage of 100 marks.
  • Exam Duration: examination will contain a duration of 3 hours (180 Minutes).
  • Question Type: GATE 2018 question paper will consist of two sections: Multiple Choice questions & Numerical Answers Questions.
  • Negative Marking: There will be no provision for negative marking in numerical questions.

GATE exam syllabus comprises of 23 papers.

GATE 2018 Syllabus of Aerospace Engineering (AE)

The AE (Aerospace Engineering) topics will be further divided into two categories: i.e. core topics (which include 90% of questions) and special topics (which include 10% remaining questions of the question paper).

Section 1 (Engineering Mathematics):

  • Core Topics:Linear Algebra, Calculus, and Differential Equations.
  • Special Topics: Numerical methods for nonlinear and linear algebraic equations, Laplace Transforms, Fourier series, Differentiation and Numerical integration.

Section 2 (Flight Mechanics):

  • Core Topics: Static stability, Basics, & Airplane performance.
  • Special Topics: Dynamic stability: stability & control derivatives, Euler angles, aerodynamic forces and moments, Equations of motion, longitudinal modes, decoupling of longitudinal, & lateral-directional dynamics lateral-directional modes.

Section 3 (Space Dynamics):

  • Core Topics: Orbital period in simple cases, and Determination of trajectory Central force motion.
  • Special Topics:  in-plane and out-of-plane, Orbit transfer.

Section 4 (Aerodynamics):

  • Core Topics:Compressible Flows, Air foils and wings, & Basic Fluid Mechanics,
  • Special Topics: Elementary ideas of viscous flows counting boundary layers, Wind Tunnel Testing: visualization & Measurement techniques.

Section 5 (Structures):

  • Core Topics: Structural Dynamics, Strength of Materials, & Flight vehicle structures
  • Special Topics: Vibration of beams, Theory of elasticity: Equilibrium, Airy’s stress function, and compatibility equations.

Section 6 (Propulsion):

  • Core Topics: Axial compressors, Basics, axial turbines, Thermodynamics of aircraft engines, Rocket propulsion, Centrifugal compressor.
  • Special Topics: No Special Topics.

GATE 2018 Syllabus of General Aptitude (GA)

  • Verbal/ Speaking Ability:  English grammar, word groups, verbal analogies, sentence completion, instructions, critical reasoning, and verbal deduction.
  • Numerical Ability: numerical reasoning numerical estimation, Numerical computation, and data interpretation
