CLAT 2017: Application form, Exam Dates, Eligibility, Syllabus

CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) 2017 is a national level entrance exam. It is organized once in a year in the month of May. It is organized for giving admission in L.L.M and Integrated L.L.B courses offered by eighteen National Law Universities of India. For the year 2017, examination is being conducted by the Chankya National Law University, Patna. Last year (2016), it was organized by the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab. Registration for CLAT 2017 has been started from the 1st of January 2017. In this article we provide all information related to CLAT 2017: Application form, Exam Dates, Eligibility, Syllabus, Registration, Counselling and Admit card etc.

 New Changes in CLAT

  • The upper age limit for general category applicants is 20 years (as on or before 1st of July 2017) for whereas upper age limit for reserved categories applicants is 22 years (as on or before 1st July 2017).
  • MNLU (Maharashtra National Law University), Nagpur has been recently added in the list of 18 National Law University.
  • The counselling/admission procedure is being conducted in only four rounds.

CLAT 2017 Registration/Application Form

  • CLAT 2017 registrationare available through online mode only.
  • Application Form for CLAT 2017is available from the 1st of January 2017.
  • Before filling the application form, all applicants need to get ready with all the documents like scanned photograph, signature, ST/SC/SAP certificate (if applicable/appropriate) or domicile certificate (if applicable).
  • Last date for submission of application form is 31st of March 2017.
  • Note that there is No need to send application via offline mode.

Application Fee:

Applicants those belong to the OBC/UR/SAP (Specially Abled People) category, have to submit Rs. 4,000/- as an application fee. Whereas SC/ST applicants have to pay Rs. 3,500/- for the same. Application fee can be paid either via Online or e-Challan. Additional bank charges may apply for the above transactions. The application fee is non-refundable in any case.

Eligibility Criteria

For UG Programmes:

  • Applicant has to qualify their 12th or alike examination with minimum 45% of marks(in case of Unreserved/SAP/OBC categories) and 40% of marks (in case of ST/SC category).
  • Appearing applicantsof Class 12th or alike examination in March/April 2017 are also eligible to apply for this exam.
  • At the time of admission, the applicants would have to provide an evidence of their passing qualifying examination.
  • The upper age limit for general category applicants is 20 years (as on or before 1st of July 2017) for whereas upper age limit for reserved categories applicants is 22 years (as on or before 1st July 2017).

For PG Programmes:

  • Applicants those who belong to Unreserved/OBC/SAP categories must passed the LL.B or alike degree with a minimum 55% of marks and 50% of marks (for SC/ST category).
  • Applicants appearing in the qualifying exam are also eligible to apply for this exam.
  • Applicants would have to provide the evidence of their qualifying examination at the time of admission.
  • There is no upper age limit for PG courses.

Exam Pattern

Exam Pattern for CLAT 2017 is different for Under Graduate and Post Graduate programmes.

For UG Programmes:

  • Mode of Exam: This entrance exam is being held via online mode.
  • Examination Based: It will be a CBT (computer based test).
  • Medium: English language.
  • Marks: The question paper contain a weightage of 200 marks.
  • Marking Scheme: For each and every right answer, applicants will be rewarded with 1 mark.
  • Negative Marking: on each and every wrong answer 0.25 marks will be deducted as a negative marking scheme.
  • Duration: 2 hours (120 minutes).

For PG Programmes:

  • Mode of Exam: This entrance exam is being held via online mode.
  • Examination Based: It will be a CBT (computer based test).
  • Medium: English language.
  • Duration: 2 Hours (120 minutes).
  • Marks: exam paper will contain total 150 MCQs.
  • Marking Scheme: For each and every right answer, applicants will be rewarded with 1 mark.
  • Negative Marking: on each and every wrong answer 0.25 marks will be deducted as a negative marking scheme.

CLAT 2017 Syllabus

Syllabus for CLAT 2017 will be prepared by the organizing university. The syllabus includes the topic of Current Affairs, Legal Aptitude, and General Knowledge, Elementary Mathematics and Constitutional Law, etc.

CLAT 2017 Admit Card

Applicants will be able to download the admit card via online mode only. Admit card will be downloadable from 20th of April 2017. The organizing university will not send the admit card via by post or e-mail on the day of examination, it is compulsory for the applicants to bring their identity proof (Voter ID/ Passport/Aadhar Card/Driving license) along with the admit card.

CLAT 2017 Result

Result for CLAT 2017 will be announced on 29th of May 2017. The result will be declared on official website. Merit list will be published along with the result. On the basis of the merit list, applicants will be called for the admission process.

Answer Key

After the result declaration, the official answer key will be released. Answer key for CLAT 2017 will be published on 16th of May 2017. With the help of answer key, applicants will get a rough idea that how much marks they will score in examination.

CLAT 2017 Counselling

Admission to Under Graduate and Post Graduate programmes in CLAT participating universities 2017 under CLAT 2017 will be done through centralized counselling. Seats will be allotted to the applicants on the basis of the ‘merit-cum-preference’. Which will be prepared by CLAT score and order of preference given by the applicant in the CLAT application form. After the result declaration, the CLAT 2017 Counselling procedure will be commenced from 6th of June 2017. The counselling process will be conducted in 4 rounds. Applicants would have to pay Rs. 50,000/- as counselling fee to show their seriousness/commitment in taking admission in any of the participating National Law University.
